Sarah Weir OBE, Chief Executive, Design Council will lecture on 'Designing the Future: Who is doing it?'
The Lady English Lecture Series marks St Hilda's College's continuing commitment to the education and advancement of women. The lectures promote the contributions made by women to the University and to public life more generally.
Marking the beginning of the 75th anniversary year of Design Council, Sarah Weir will be considering the contribution made by women to designing the environment in which we live and work. From a pixel to a city, the best design is almost unnoticed because it just works for those using it. The current UK design economy workforce is 78% male, compared to 53% of the wider UK workforce. So is our future being designed for some or for all? And does our past help us find different solutions for a changing world?
The lecture will take place in the Jacqueline du Pré Music Building on 6 November at 5.30pm, followed by a drinks reception in the JdP Foyer.
