To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the birth of the artist James Ward RA, 1769-1859

The talk accompanies the current exhibition at Thame Museum, James Ward An Artist At Work. Derek Turner, the curator of the exhibition will be discussing the successes and failures of this prolific artist, who in his day was widely regarded as the leading English animal painter, second only to Stubbs in his depiction of horses. Ward's artistic work covered a range of genres, including picturesque country scenes, landscapes, portraits, as well as classical, religious and historical. At the end of his life he had produced 4000 paintings.
