Thomas Wardle, master dyer, introduced William Morris to the craft of natural dyeing and his wife Elizabeth shared Morris’ passion for embroidery. George Wardle managed Morris & Co for 20 years at a crucial stage in the firm’s development and oversaw production at Merton Abbey.
