Discover the story of the Wardle family who had strong connections with William Morris and find out how rivers played a part in their combined histories. Thomas Wardle, master dyer, introduced William Morris to the craft of natural dyeing and his wife Elizabeth shared Morris’ passion for embroidery. George Wardle managed Morris & Co for 20 years at a crucial stage in the firm’s development and oversaw production at Merton Abbey.
The lecture is given by Dr Brenda M King, Chair of The Textile Society (UK).
