Free and accessible to all.
30th July - 1st September 2019
The quality of ‘the line’ became apparent to each artist in discussions of their shared artistic practice, from examining the lineage of their own individual heritage to the development of more formal working processes. Coming together for the first time since their graduation show in 2013, the work reflects the trajectories each of their lives have taken after leaving university.
The show explores similarities and differences, what still connects each artist to the other and what also makes them distinct. As the title ‘Line Makers’ suggests, there are both circumstantial and metaphysical forces at play - three strangers who were brought together and became friends as students, graduation which set them geographically apart, a creative friendship and the opportunity which has drawn them together: to exhibit and share their work once again .
A myriad of questions are asked in the meantime. What does a line represent, and who exactly makes the lines? How does it relate to the artists themselves, and their family history? And if there is a common thread, how does the line travel from their time at University, and where has it continued to go since? The exhibition seeks to explore these questions through craft, skill and imagination.
Coinciding workshops to be announced on the Glass Tank website and social media.
