Join us for our next ‘In Conversation with…’ panel discussion. As part of our ongoing series of informal weekday morning talks, we invite professionals working in the creative industries to talk about their projects and contemporary practices. The series provides insights into specific cross-disciplinary areas including Publishing, Education, Design, Science, Healthcare, Art History and Curation.

Our fantastic panelists include Tish Francis Co-Director of ‘The Capital Project’ at The Story Museum, Katie Taylor Artist and Manager of Magdalen Road Studios, chaired by Art Writer Romina Provenzi.

The panel will focus on how a temporary or permanent lease of an empty space to local organisations could benefit not only the organisation but also the owner of the building and the local community of residents. Tish Francis will talk about how the founders of the Story Museum found the space, what the space used to be and will become by the end of ‘The Capital Project’. The panelists will also discuss the scarcity of affordable artists studios in Oxford and what could be done to readdress the shortage with converting empty buildings in a number of studios like many examples in London. Katie Taylor, will talk about the space and arrangements of Magdalen Road Studios and will share what she feels are some of the benefits of working and creating an artists community.

Tish Francis joined The Story Museum in 2009 and is responsible for the Capital Project and Programme (exhibitions, programme and events). A Director and Producer with a long and successful track record in the cultural and charitable sector, she has been associated with launching, regenerating and sustaining a series of successful capital, arts and community enterprises including Oxford Playhouse where she was Director from 1990-2008. She is advisor to Oxford Inspires and the Gravity Fields Festival, Grantham and a Trustee of The Rose Theatre, Kingston and, Visible Theatre founded with an international professional ensemble aged 60-85.

Katie Taylor is a contemporary sculptural installation artist based in Oxford, UK. She has a first class degree in Textiles and is currently studying an MFA at Oxford Brookes University. Katie Taylor is also Manager of Artists Studios Magdalen Road Studios.
