This is a very rare opportunity to spend a day with one of England's top regional artists and art historians as he guides a small group through the basics of life drawing with a live model. Chris Fiddes is a hugely experienced and knowledgeable teacher. His life drawings are impressive and prolific - he will bring along some of his sketchbooks for inspiration and comment.
Drawing a live model (clothed), you will produce three pieces of work during the day. The first exercise will assume no previous experience and take you, in detail, through some fundamental tips and approaches - what Chris calls his 'rules of thumb'. Your second drawing will build on the techniques you have learned and your last will give you more freedom to explore your own personal style, under Chris' watchful eye.
He will offer one-to-one support to consolidate your drawing skills - including measurement, proportion, line and tone - and also teach through demonstrating his own interpretation. (Max 8 participants)
Please bring a selection of pencils (especially B and 2B) and a good sharpener and rubber. Also, please bring your own 30cm clear (see-through) plastic ruler.
We will supply drawing boards, paper, a range of pencils and pens, a couple of easels (for those who prefer them) and one or two other pieces of equipment
The class is ideal for amateur artists used to working in pencil or aiming to improve their pencil drawing skills. You do NOT need to be a practised figure artist - but this is not a class for absolute beginners.
