Artweeks 2019: Create your own "Flatback Figure"
Held within the SJE Arts Cloister Gallery Gardens, outside and undercover, booking essential.

Who is it for? Anyone interested in pottery - NO experience necessary although creative skills will be beneficial.
What will I make? Find inspiration from traditional "Flatback Figures" a humble mantlepiece ornament depicting a rustic scene of figures or animals. Make a contemporary version or follow traditional examples. Personalise yours further by bringing along textured surfaces such as textiles to emboss into the clay, detailed items such as jewellery to impress decoration and embellishment into your design to leave a lasting mark in the clay to hold your special memories.

What will I learn? You will be fully supported through the making process to complete your "Flatback Figure" within this workshop. Learn traditional pottery techniques of pinching, bonding, modeling, sprigs, scraffito, extruding, impressed decoration and underglazing colour. You will have your own crafted "Flatback" example fired and glazed in my studio kiln ready to collect within a couple of weeks.
