Ethno England is a youth music exchange that brings together musicians from different countries, cultures and musical backgrounds to collaborate and learn from each other. The project runs worldwide in more than 18 countries, and offers musical experiences which champion cross-cultural friendship and respect.

Join members of the Ethno England team for a training day based on the Ethnofonik Syllabus, designed to train leaders for the worldwide Ethno music project, but with skills and techniques to help your practice in all sorts of group music settings.

We will explore challenges of and techniques for facilitating peer-to-peer musical activities with mixed ability and multicultural groups, looking at group dynamics, aural learning techniques and challenges of working with musicians from diverse cultural backgrounds.

This workshop is designed for musicians with some experience of musical workshop facilitation or those looking to expand their practice and gain knowledge of a dynamic approach used successfully in projects across the world from India to Brazil!

The day will involve participatory workshops, role playing, and group discussions, and we will put together a short performance to finish the session.

Sessions will cover:

- Developing skills and attitudes needed in musical facilitation of multicultural and mixed ability groups.

- Exploring issues arising from working with mixed ability and multicultural workshop groups, and methods for overcoming these issues.

- Understanding the relevance of the Ethno method of facilitation to encourage active participation of musicians of mixed ability, to foster their will and capacity to meet and interact with diverse groups of musicians.

- An introduction to group theory in the context of creative workshops.

- Reflecting and sharing of previous coaching experiences of diverse music groups.

- Putting tools and methods into practice in real workshop situations.

Please bring your instruments and voices!
