Saddler teapot: Aberystwyth University Ceramics University

A journey through the story of the Great British cuppa, showing how tea has developed from an exotic drink originating in the Far East, to a symbol of the power of the British Empire, an inspiration for studio potters and the favourite drink of the nation. The exhibition includes some of the earliest teapots made in Britain, alongside modern examples ranging from the everyday to the quirky. On loan from Aberystwyth University Ceramics Collection are teapots by Geoffrey Whitting, Walter Keeler, Ryoji Koie and Mary White. Also featured is the Oxford University Museums’ ‘A Nice Cup of Tea’ project providing a reminder of the darker aspects of tea production.
