On an instrument he commissioned and named, Caoimhín makes minimalist, spine-tingling music with clear roots in the language of Irish traditional music. The ‘hardanger d’amore’ is a cross between the Norwegian traditional hardanger fiddle and a viola d’amore - 10 strings in total, and a whole world of resonance.

Caoimhín plays with The Gloaming and This is How we Fly, as well as collaborating with artists such as Garth Knox, Laurie Anderson, Amiina and Vincent Moon. He has made music for theatre and film, including music for the Oscar-nominated movie Brooklyn and Volker Schlondorff's Return to Montauk.
