Mark-Anthony Turnage’s ‘Blood on the Floor’, premiered in 1996, is a raw and moving work fuelled by the pain of loss. It takes its name from the striking painting by Francis Bacon. The composer skillfully melds his jazz and contemporary voices into what is considered his ‘magnum “fusion” opus’ (Gramophone). Come and hear some of Oxford’s best musicians, conducted by Tom Fetherstonhaugh, in a groundbreaking project by two of the university’s leading student orchestras.
