Paul Preece is an Oxford based photographer and scientist. In this exhibition, Preece presents photographs of a range of gothic cloisters from Portugal, Spain and England.

The exhibition explores the fleeting nature of light as a metaphor for life, set against a backdrop of cold, hard stone that measures time in centuries. Like a beating heart, light is at its most intense in the centre of the cloister. Darkness surrounds it. The light is always within. Until, of course, it’s not. Memento Mori.

Included in the exhibition is the enigmatic work The Sacred Heart of Oseira, an image born in the 21st century but rooted in medieval mystery due to the accidental presence of divine symbols hidden in plain view.
