Venue, Timing and Cost

Venue:
River & Rowing Museum
Date(s):
Saturday, 9 March 2019
Timing:
10.30am-12.30pm.
Cost:
£6.00. Booking essential.

The Museum holds a varied collection of rowing-related objects and documentation, but only a small proportion pertains to individual women or to the women's sport. The historically smaller numbers of women participating in the sport offers only a partial explanation for this. This talk will consider the power of the archive, and the implications of using archives historically determined and defined by men in the writing of history. It will also reflect on recording women's words in oral history as a way of breaking archival silences and addressing archival omissions.
