Level 2: Introduction to Weaving Group Workshop

LEVEL 2: INTRODUCTION TO WEAVING GROUP WORKSHOP

Further your knowledge of the basics of weaving in our 3 hour, Level 2: Introduction to Weaving Workshop.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Building upon your knowledge from our Level 1: Introduction to Weaving Workshop, we will aim to further your weaving skills with new techniques and patterns and begin to discuss design concepts that form the cornerstone of hand-weaving.

We will begin the workshop discussing the differences between classic weaving and tapestry weaving and how this influences how you might set up your warp using your Frame Loom. Weaving design concepts such as the number of weaving shafts you can work with, the Sett on your loom, your EPI and yarn selection will help you to further understand the relationship of warp and weft and how they can significantly impact the outcome of your project.

Once this is understood, we can then explore new techniques and patterns from classic weaving such as floats, twills and herringbone by working on '4 or 8 shafts'. We will also learn new tapestry weaving techniques for creating shapes and combining colours.

This workshop would suit those who have previously taken our Level 1 Introduction to Weaving workshop or who have some prior experience of weaving but need to refresh their skills. The focus of the workshop is to complete a finished sample exploring the different techniques and patterns and to use these as a reference to experiment further at home. Each student will work on a Frame Loom for the duration of the workshop but we may demonstrate some techniques on our hand or floor looms. Students will also be provided with all the necessary yarn to experiment with on the day.

For previous students progressing from our Level 1: Introduction to Weaving Workshop, please bring your Loom Starter Kit with you to the workshop and select this option at check out.

For new students wanting to enter directly at this level, please contact us to discuss your suitability. Please also note we will be providing you with a Loom Starter Kit to use for the duration of the workshop. If you decide to purchase the Loom Starter Kit you may do so on the day or prior to the workshop by clicking here.

The class is designed to be fun and engaging with the opportunity to further your understanding of weaving while learning at your own pace. You will also have enough time to complete your project in this session. Typical class sizes hold a maximum of 6 students so you will have plenty of individual attention.
