Venue, Timing and Cost
Richard Cresswell started his working life as a mechanical engineer designing all manner of things and creating beautiful prototypes which he enjoyed immensely but found after years of this that the his clients were really only concerned with costs and profit.
In 2001 he decided to change his life to something where he could throw all his passion into his work and make only things he liked and hopefully gave others pleasure when they saw them. He still working on it and the results are stunningly beautiful and graceful forms, often inspired by nature or by fine engineering design. Watching them move in the wind adds another dimension as each changes as you watch, both with the light falling on them and their movement showing contrasting lines and angles.
The Turrill Sculpture Garden is proud to be showing a group of these wonderful sculptures – inspired by the Kinetic exhibition at Tate Modern where very little was allowed to move – we can do better in Oxford.
