Venue, Timing and Cost
This term's artist-in-residence, Dr Azadeh Fatehrad, will be showing an installation of her work, ‘The Echo of Your Departures’, in the Barn Gallery. The installation is the result of her residency at St John’s, in collaboration with talented students of the College and with generous support from the staff.
Dr Azadeh Fatehrad is an artist and curator based at the Visual and Material Culture Research Centre, Kingston University London. Her current research project is titled Double Agency: The Formation of Diasporas. Her interdisciplinary research overlaps with political science, sociology, representation, photography and moving image, and architecture.
For this exhibition, 'The Echo of Your Departures' is a multimedia installation comprising a five-channel sound and two-channel video piece reflecting on this research project.
Azadeh Fatehrad 'Falling Series'The installation has been inspired by a series of in-depth anthropological interviews in the context of women in diasporas, and addresses questions of gender, identity, femininity, emotion, desire, fantasy, body language, clothing norms and moral values, among other things. Fatehrad has taken fragments of the interview transcriptions and combined them with imaginary elements of self-reflection to create an ephemeral constellation (of sound and video) through which she seeks to represent the notions of uncertainty and in-betweeness in the diasporic experience.
