Pew Group 2017 by Jane

Who is it for? Anyone interested in pottery - no experience necessary although creative skills will be beneficial.

What will I make? Find inspiration from traditional Eighteenth century Folk art “Pew Group” seated figures. These humble naive figures were made to mark special dates in a lifetime such as weddings and given as gifts or kept as family heirlooms. Make a contemporary version or follow traditional examples.

Personalise yours further by bringing along textured surfaces such as textiles to emboss into the clay, detailed items such as jewellery to impress decoration and embellishment into your design to leave a lasting mark in the clay to hold your special memories.

What will I learn? You will be guided through the making process to complete your pew group within this workshop. Learn traditional pottery techniques of slab-building, bonding, modeling, scraffito and impressed decoration. You will have your own crafted "Pew Group" example fired and glazed in the studio kiln ready to collect within a couple of weeks.

How much does it cost? £30 This includes all materials, firing, glazing, and refreshments. You are welcome to socialise afterwards - bring along a packed lunch to enjoy in the garden and take time to view the Artweeks exhibition at your leisure.

How long does it run? A two and a half-hour workshop (includes a short break)
Where will it be held? Outside and undercover.

How do I enrol? Payment by credit/debit card or 'PayPal' account please to be made via 'PayPal' to enquiries@rosewallaceceramics.co.uk Places limited to 10 students, these will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis.

When will the workshop be confirmed? Your place will be confirmed one week before the event. In the event of the workshop being under/oversubscribed or unable to take place due to unforeseen circumstances you will be sent notification of cancellation and a refund shortly afterwards.
