Barbican Piano Trio is known for stimulating performances and exceptional audience rapport. At home the Trio appears regularly at Wigmore Hall and in festivals and concert series around the country, abroad it has performed at major venues in the USA as well as in Europe, the Far East and South America. The Trio plays all the acclaimed masterpieces for the genre but also enjoys exploring less familiar works.
Sophie Lockett, violin, joined the Trio in 2009. She has a diverse performing career playing with orchestras including London Chamber, London Contemporary and the London Symphony. Robert Max, cello, has been with Barbican Piano Trio for 30 years. His career encompasses solo performance, chamber music and conducting. James Kirby, piano, reached the semi-finals of the International Tchaikovsky Competition while studying at Moscow Conservatory and returns regularly to Russia for concerto performances and to appear in festivals. Collaborations at home include with the Vanburgh Quartet and with singer, Sarah Connolly.
