Daniel Ablitt 'Favourite Place' Sarah Wiseman Gallery

Sarah Wiseman Gallery is pleased to present Foundations, a solo exhibition by Daniel Ablitt.

In a pivotal point in Daniel's career, Foundations will see him move forward from exploring landscape as an emotive subject, into a more personal sphere investigating the notion of 'home'.

By picking out certain landscape features such as a mountain, forest or lake, Daniel taps into our human response to landscape memory and how certain images settle onto our collective consciousness. It is this theme of perceived recognition which forms the backbone of Daniel's painting.

These ideas will remain at the core of Fundations, as he explores the less tangible elements of 'home', such as the memories and the familiar routines that make our homes meaningful. As a starting point, Daniel has looked to a particular set of fleeting, sensory experiences from his own childhood, which many of us can relate to.

'I think the memories we hold [have] influence, and are in turn influenced by memories we are currently making. These are at the fundamental core of 'home.' Without them, we are left with just space and objects ' he explains.

Coupled with other research into surrounding issues, such as leaving home, losing a home or seeking a new one, Daniel's newest collection will resonate with a deeper, more personal truth.

Daniel Ablitt trained at Edinburgh College of Art and Cheltenham and Gloucester School of Art. Now based in Bristol, he regularly travels in order to find inspiration for his paintings. Recent journeys have taken him to Argentina, Denmark, Cambodia, Vietnam, Iceland and the Middle East.
