Stephen Hough places Debussy and Chopin side by side to highlight the empathy between them in their love for, and understanding of, the sound of the piano. He will then bring the evening to a dramatic close with Beethoven’s Sonata Op.57, Appassionata, in Hough’s own words, ‘one of the most incendiary, elemental works every written’.

Stephen Hough combines a distinguished career as a pianist with those of composer and writer. Recent and upcoming highlights include performances with the BBC Symphony, London Philharmonic, Hallé, Sydney Symphony, Seoul Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic and The Cleveland orchestras. In 2018 he will be Artist-in-Residence at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, performing a cycle of Beethoven concertos, and will give recitals at venues including New York’s Carnegie Hall and London’s Royal Festival Hall (International Piano Series).
