Aesthetic considerations such as symmetry, colour, and choice of materials are important in an artistic context, but these concepts are major considerations for satellite designers too – albeit for rather different reasons.

Like artists, scientists and engineers face choices about how best to represent the worlds they explore. This talk will explain some of the challenges associated with presenting space science data and consider how both space art and space science are functions of time.

Dr Stuart Eves is Mission Concepts Engineer at Surrey Satellite Technology Limited (SSTL), Guildford. He has an MSc in Astrophysics, a PhD in satellite constellation design, and has been a fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society for more than 20 years.

Free entry, booking essential.

Before the talk, there will be a free tour led by artist and Modern Art Oxford Duty Manager, Jumana Hokan.
