Some live in palaces, Some in halls
The Children of the Night
Live in cracks in the walls.
Under your feet in the gutters of the street
Caught on the wire of the city of fire
Can’t remember silence. Lonely for the sky.
Lost in the shadows as you pass us by
Children of the Night is a story about the forgotten, the neglected and the damned. A contemporary reimagining of Dickens’ haunting novel Oliver Twist it centres on young lives that are lived in the shadows subject to exploitation and violent crime. Today over 150 million children around the globe live on the streets and their days are spent begging, thieving and searching for safe accommodation, cheek by jowl with the wealthy and complacent.
Once let him feel that he is one of us; once fill his mind with the idea that he has been a thief, and he’s ours - ours for life.
Charles Dickens Oliver Twist
The play weaves in and out of the lives of Duck, JD, Angel, the Rif Rafs and the Scuttlers as they strive to survive in a cold world encountering unfathomable dangers, evil and sometimes, in the most unexpected situations, love, hope and friendship.
Following acclaimed productions of Aeneid, Lord of the Flies, Idylls of the King, Alice in Wonderland and Wind in the Willows MCS Theatre Academy performs a play devised by Joanne Pearce (RSC Associate Artist) and Rose Noble.
‘Wind in the Willows is a triumph....performances worthy of a professional company.’ Oxford Times
