John Steane, teacher, historian and former Oxfordshire County Archaeologist presents a display of a selection of his watercolours and drawings.

His collection will feature paintings from his teenage years of St Pauls' Cathedral in war torn London and his time at Magdalen College, Oxford. Painting include British castles, domestic interiors, medieval tithe barns, hedgerows, coastlines, and Oxfordshire architecture and gardens such as the Radcliffe Camera, the Botanic Gardens and Rousham. His travel paintings range from the Dorset coast to rural France and Prague; Karnak, Egypt; Palmyra, Syria, the Seven Pillars of Wisdom in Jordan, and Beijing.

A separate section will be the originals of illustrations completed for the publication of his book Traditional Buildings in the Oxford Region (ISBN 978-1-84217-479-1), as well as the Oxfordshire footpath guides published by his wife The Seven Shires Way (ISBN 1-873877-51-X), The Roman Way (ISBN 187419202-2) and Milestones to Millstones (ISBN 978-1-909116-58-0).

A selection of the paintings will be for sale.
