Langtree Sinfonia Spring Concert

The Spring concert of the Langtree Sinfonia will be held in St Mary’s Church, Henley-on-Thames on Saturday, May 13th, at 7.30pm and promises to be an intriguing evening.

The concert has three works. Mendelssohn’s overture `The Fair Melusine’ and Beethoven’s grandiose Seventh Symphony. These will frame the unusual combination of Ukelele and orchestra in a concertante work by Lindsay Higgs.

The Beethoven Symphony is an orchestral standard and quite well known, the Mendelssohn less so and is a most poetic evocation of the Undine legend, a fairy tale Mendelssohn portrays with his usual consummate skill.

But the combination of the Ukelele and orchestra remains rare and Lindsey Higgs’s work is a good opportunity to hear this combination!

As usual, Paul Cox conducts.
