Doug Scott and the late Dougal Haston’s first ascent of Everest’s South West Face remains one of the most significant climbs in mountaineering history and made him the first Brit to conquer Everest. Doug will tell of how his life led up to this defining moment, where it took him upon his return, and will provide a very personal account of this legendary first ascent of the world’s highest peak.

Doug went on to set up the charity Community Action Nepal with mountaineering friends –Sir Chris Bonington is CAN’s very active patron. CAN has now set up some sixty projects in remote areas of rural Nepal - Health Posts, Schools and Porter Rescue Shelters.

Proceeds from the talk will help fund the reconstruction of CAN’s projects damaged or destroyed in 2015. Doug will update the audience on the project being made with the projects. There will be a sale of Nepalese goods, posters and cards before the talk and during the interval and the talk will be followed by an auction of signed framed mountaineering prints.
