This summer, Arts at The Old Fire Station presents Transcending The Signified, an exhibition of vibrant large scale paintings, costumes, live cello and non-linguistic vocal performances by interdisciplinary artist Quilla Constance aka Jennifer Allen.

Transcending The Signified explores daring new possibilities for performing and existing beyond learned actions, gestures, familiar aesthetics, and socio-cultural boundaries.

Surrounded by a body of intricate and imposing paintings, Quilla Constance will perform a surprising deviation from Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto in E minor (first movement) whilst encased in elaborate ‘exotic’ costume.

Transcending The Signified is funded by Arts Council England and tours to The Old Fire Station, Oxford from The Museum of Contemporary Art London.

Thursday 3 August, 6 – 8pm – Join us for an opening performance by the artist of Elgar’s cello concerto in E minor followed by atonal cello and a non-linguistic vocal scat, in ‘exotic’ bespoke QC costume against a backdrop of her large ‘spiritual’ canvases.
