Poster for Bartholomew Consort Stabat Mater

The Bartholomew Consort returns to Oxford after their visit to Amsterdam last October where they performed to an audience of over 500 people in the Westerkerk.
The programme of early Italian baroque music on February 19th brings together two tragic Biblical stories, that of Mary at the foot of the Cross, in Domenico Scarlatti's beautiful setting of Stabat Mater, and Historica di Jephte, set by Giacomo Carissimi, telling the tale of Jephte, who when evicted from his homelands promises God, that on his return ". . . whoever comes out from the doors of my house to meet me when I return in peace from the Ammonites shall be the LORD's, and I will offer him up for a burnt offering. [Judges 11:31]). Unfortunately for Jephte, it transpires that that person is his daughter.

JanJoost van Elburg will lead the singers and four instrumentalists ( Martin Perkins, organ, Henrik Perrson, gamba, Eligion Quinteiro, theorbo and Jan Spencer, violone) through this beautiful music.
Do not miss this!
Entry is free, however donations will be most welcome at the end of the concert.
