Bryce Speed creates psychological environments of seascapes and turbulent waters in
pen and ink, offset by loosely painted geometric shapes and wonderings that interrupt the interiors and landscapes.

For him, “line and color represent the forces of nature, like water, fire, and wind that invade and sometimes destroy our living spaces. Architectural forms metaphorically
reference both the stability and instability of identity.”

In this latest body of work, colour choices mostly centre on quiet neutrals, but here and there acidic yellows, vibrant greens and pinks dot the surfaces. The occasional human figure is suggested in the work.

Bryce lives in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and teaches all levels of painting at the University of Alabama, where he is an Assistant Professor of Art.
