Celebrating the link between theatre, visual art and storytelling, these unusual wall-mounted theatres invite exploration.

Travel Theatres utilise the familiar format of proscenium and stage, veiling and unveiling to present narratives. Simple puppet figures are used to explore complex themes as diverse as colonialism and spirituality in a way that is both witty and moving.

Occasionally Travel Theatres are larger floor standing structures akin to dolls’ houses, incorporating four to six ‘stages’. Two such theatres are on display here and celebrate the work of two contrasting writers, C.S Lewis and Philip Pullman.

One of these larger theatres – ‘A Home Unpacked’ – is a collaboration between writer and storyteller Shane Anderson and maker Adrian Brooks. This piece reflects a person’s earliest experiences of Home and is a fusion of art and theatre.
