Banbury's Cherwell Theatre Company is delighted to announce an exciting and affordable opportunity for Oxfordshire's young theatre-makers this August.

The company will present Remote, a contemporary play by Stef Smith at The Mill Arts Centre on Saturday, August 13 at 7.30pm as part of a Play in a Week workshop.

Young people will have the opportunity to develop their acting, movement
and voice skills, as well as gaining experience in the technical disciplines of
theatre, such as stage management, design, costume, props, lighting and sound in this intensive hot house style session.

Participants are also offered the valuable chance to work with professional theatre director Richard Fitch who recently directed Serious Heroes at the Old Vic and is Associate Director for Funny Girl in the West End.

"Thanks to generous support CTC is delighted to offer this fantastic opportunity to young people of 12 years and upwards for only £30," said Artistic Director Tristan Pate.

"We also have a number of bursary places available for the course and accept applications from anyone interested in taking part. No previous experience is necessary, just energy and enthusiasm!"

The week's workshop is an intense one, with rehearsals taking place from 10am-6pm Monday-Friday at Banbury United FC, who have also kindly supported the project.

The play, first performed as part of the National Theatre Connections Festival in 2015, explores themes of protest, power and protecting oneself.

"The play begins with a girl leaving her house, throwing her phone on the ground and stamping on it," said Mr Pate.

"She then decides to climb the tallest tree in the park and we're not sure whether she ever plans to come down. It's a piece that's really relevant to us all at the moment with the rise of social media and the anxieties that come with it."

Though CTC has an existing youth group which will take part, Mr Pate is keen to welcome new people to the company.

"It's the perfect introduction to our work for the uninitiated. It gives the chance to explore your creative and imaginative side, improve your confidence, find out more about how theatre is made, or just have fun working as part of a team before the summer holidays come to a close!"

If you are aged 12+ and are interested in taking part, please email cherwelltheatre@live.co.uk or visit the company's website for further information at www.cherwelltheatrecompany.co.uk
