Julie Nelson 'Ponti Bird'

The summer collection will feature work from artists who explore colour and texture to create subtle, tactile pieces of work.

A showcase of abstracts by Lisa Traxler is one of the highlights and includes paintings as well as a series of mixed media pieces. Lisa has many strands to her work, including sculpture and installations, all of which feed into one another to create a rich body of work. Her paintings wrap textures and colours around each form, creating volume from angular, tumultuous, and yet soft, shapes. An associate member of the Royal Watercolour Society, Lisa has won numerous awards and has exhibited her work widely, including a solo exhibition which toured during 2014 and 2015.

Julie Nelson is exhibiting with the gallery for the first time with a collection of her endearing ceramics birds. The minimal forms and curved lines of each bird create a stillness, while the glazes and surface finishes add character and curiosity. Repetition is a key factor in much of her work and her birds are often made in groups, interacting with each other, creating a balance of form and colour and inviting us to view the group as a whole.

A collection of ceramics by Matt Waite explores layering rich glazes and oxides to create a subtle variation of colour and texture around each form. His subtle tones are reflected in a series of solar etchings by Luella Martin, whose work has a transient feel; capturing fleeting moments in time using a chemical-free printing method which she combines with brushing ink or paint onto the surface of the paper before printing to create a painterly feel.

Two jewellers, Rhiannon Lewis and Agneta Bugyte, also explore surface texture in different ways, incorporating piercing and oxidising, matt surface finishes and set stones.

There will also be new work arriving throughout the summer, so much more to enjoy…

The exhibition opens on Saturday 2nd July and runs until 31st August and the gallery is open Tuesday-Saturday 10am-5pm and Sundays and Bank Holidays 11am-4pm
