Are you inspired by the stories of Oxford’s past? Could you share these stories with children and young people in an informative and creative way?

Oxford City Council’s Museum of Oxford reopened in October 2021 and we are looking for a Casual Museum Learning Facilitator to lead workshops for our new schools programme.

Working with our learning team, you will be responsible for setting up, delivering and clearing up for schools workshops on site at the exciting new Museum of Oxford, and online in schools workshops that are delivered digitally.

As a Casual Museum Learning Facilitator, you will be the face of the Museum of Oxford for our schools audience and this role is vital to ensuring the museum operates to its full potential and students and teachers leave having had an enjoyable experience. Workshop delivery takes between 1 hour and 2.5 hours depending on the format, and set-up and clear up is usually about 30 minutes each side of the booking. Age ranges for workshops will vary and maximum group size is one class. Training will be provided by our Schools Engagement Officer at the start of employment.

This presents a great opportunity for an individual who is friendly, flexible and committed to providing the highest standards of schools workshops. You will also be reliable, with excellent time keeping and an enthusiastic approach to work, being able to respond to a range of situations. If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.

Role purpose
To deliver learning sessions for organised groups onsite at the Museum of Oxford and online from the museum.
To provide excellent customer care for our group visits to ensure that primary schools, secondary schools, home school groups, etc, leave the museum enthused about Oxford’s history.

Role responsibilities and main duties
To prepare for the workshops, including the set-up of furniture, handling collections and PowerPoint presentations.
To communicate with teachers and other group leaders during their visit to the Museum of Oxford.
To deliver learning sessions using our handling collections and galleries onsite at the Museum of Oxford and online from the museum.
To clear up from workshops, including the return of collections to storage.
To work with volunteers in the galleries supporting the learning sessions at the museum.
To fully engage with the training process for the museum’s learning sessions.
The post holder will join the museum’s casual register of Learning Facilitators. He/she will be paid for the hours they work.
