
Key responsibilities of the Cafe Manager
Team management
- Work closely with the Front of House Manager to recruit staff to support the cafe
- Manage cafe staff inductions and appraisals
- Identify and carry out training to develop the cafe team
- Oversee systems within the cafe, ensuring procedures are followed and implement any new methods
- Manage the cafe staff rota
- Working closely with the Front of House Manager to deliver monthly/bi-monthly FOH meetings providing cafe updates and training to the team
Café management
- Oversee range of food and drink orders, supporting the cafe team to work with new suppliers
- Manage and deliver income targets, diversifying income streams and developing the cafe offer to expand customer base, working with the cafe team to highlight new stock and equipment to research
- Lead on cash handling procedures for the café and box office, ensuring compliance and accuracy, communicating with the Finance Manager to identify discrepancies
- Budget management for cafe, pricing items and examining margins and support the Front of House Manager in pricing for bar items
- Monthly financial reporting on cafe sales to the finance team
- Quarterly financial reporting to the senior management team and board of trustees on cafe sales and DRK/catering income.
- Report monthly to Damascus Rose Kitchen to provide details on sales totals
- Ensure VAT compliance on cafe/bar sales
- Work with the bookings team to deliver catering requests for events and identifying opportunities to further our catering offer
- Oversee Health & Safety and Food Hygiene requirements in the cafe and bar spaces, in close coordination with the Crisis facilities team and Deputy CEO
- Oversee the maintenance of kitchen and cafe equipment alongside Crisis facilities team
- Work with Facilities Manager to ensure all staff, including Damascus Rose Kitchen, are trained in our fire safety procedures
- Work alongside the Deputy CEO to help develop Damascus Rose Kitchen’s offer both internally and externally and build on our partnership
- Be the lead contact for Damascus Rose Kitchen for day-to-day operations and implementation of systems in coordination with their staff
- Act as a designated first aider
Organisational development
- Work to improve FOH income streams
- Take an active role in developing our Arts Training Scheme, alongside Crisis
- Represent the Head of HR and Operations when required to do so
Selection Criteria
If you have all or most of these, please apply:
- Experience in training others, recruiting staff, and managing a staff rota
- Budget management and cash handling experience
- Cafe supervision or management experience
- Examples of making improvements and developments to streamline systems and increase income streams in a cafe
- Experience of implementing health and safety objectives
- Level 3 Food Hygiene certificate
- Qualifications in First Aid, Fire Marshall, Health and Safety
- A Personal License Holder and willingness to be Designated Premises Supervisor for the sale of alcohol
- The ability to multi-task and work under pressure in an organised manner
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and customer service
- Good Microsoft Office skills and experience, including Outlook and Excel
- The ability to work weekends
- A willingness to undertake appropriate training
- Energy and enthusiasm to be part of a small team
- An eye for detail and ability to complete tasks
