OPEN @ The Old Fire Station
Hello, and welcome to our first-ever OPEN exhibition at the Old Fire Station. Spanning across the Upper and Lower Galleries, this Salon-style exhibition will aim to showcase a diverse and varied collection of work across painting, drawing, animation, filmmaking, sculpture, textiles and printmaking (to name just a few mediums!). We want to encourage artists from all stages of their careers to submit their work; there is no selection criteria or judging panel for this exhibition. We aim to elevate everyone’s creativity and share it with Oxford!
There is an admission fee to enter, and all applications are accepted and exhibited (if they meet the terms and conditions). All artworks are for sale, and we endeavour to keep prices affordable. A small percentage of artwork sales and the admission fee goes towards the work of the Old Fire Station. We are a charity, and these funds will help keep our galleries free and open to the public while supporting emerging artists.

Submission information
No works containing food or perishable items can be submitted. We will endeavour to exhibit all the work submitted. However, if we cannot be due to space constraints, then we will exhibit at least One work by each entrant. As a public gallery that shares our space with the charity Crisis, we often have vulnerable people in our spaces. For this reason, works that have graphic violence, explicit, or upsetting themes, or works promoting drug or alcohol use cannot be shown in our galleries. If you have questions about whether we can show your work in the gallery, please get in touch with us at e.west@oldfirestation.org.uk. Work which the gallery judges to be inconsistent with our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy and at the Exhibition Manager’s discretion will not be exhibited.
2D & 3D artworks
Participants using 2D or 3D can submit up to three works in total.
2D artworks can be no larger than 800mm in width, length or depth (including frame).
3D work must be no larger than 800mm in width, length or depth (including plinth, if supplied). Artists submitting 3D works may also submit 2D work (all rules about 2D works still apply).
All works must be ready to hang directly onto nails or with wire or mirror plates (we cannot accept clip frames).
Works from an individual artist will not be hung together, and diptychs will be split up and count as a single work each.
After submitting the form, please email one high-quality image of each of the works to e.west@oldfirestation.org.uk from the same email address that you enter on the form.
The image must be titled ‘Surname_First Name_Artwork Title’ and be JPG or PNG. JPGs should be in RGB mode. The image must not exceed 1200px X 1200px and no bigger than 3 MB. Please attach the image to the email and not embed it into the body.
Moving image
Only one moving image work can be submitted per individual. Participants submitting moving image work can submit up to two 2D & 3D artworks in addition.
Maximum duration for moving image works: 5 minutes, including credits etc.
Moving images must be .mp4 and high quality. They will be displayed as one show reel in the Upper Gallery.
Please don’t add a title page; we will create one for you.
Please subtitle your work to assist accessibility in our gallery.
After submitting the form, please send your video via WeTransfer, with the title ‘Surname_First Name_Artwork Title’, to e.west@oldfirestation.org.uk.
Selling your artwork
The Old Fire Station will add a commission of 20% + VAT; please do not add this yourself. For example, if your artwork is priced at £100, the Old Fire Station markup would be £20 (20 % of 100) and we would then add VAT to that price. The public price would be £124, and you would receive £100 of this income. All work must be for sale.
