Gobo Theatre is looking for a new Musical Director. The role is to work with our young people developing their voices, and ultimately working towards an annual production. This is a permanent part-time self-employed role that would suit someone local to South Oxfordshire.

Gobo Theatre was created to mentor, teach and inspire in the theatrical arts with a passion for providing opportunities to all. We have a tiered pricing structure based on family income so that youngsters who might not normally afford to be part of a youth theatre can also be involved. We like to teach in an enabling way, using rehearsal techniques and games that give students transferable skills so they are using the theatre to take away life-long qualities. Gobo likes to focus on the people we have, and work with who is there rather than creating a sausage-factory of shows - each individual has their role and we adapt shows to fit the people and their skills and passions.

We work with different age groups, and applicants would need to be happy to work with all ages from 5 – 25. Within those age groups there will also be a range of skills and experience, so because we have an ‘open-to-all’ policy and do not audition, you will need experience at dealing with different levels within each group, particularly developing a love of music with the younger ages, and working on confidence at releasing the voice in the older ages.

Currently our youth theatre program is run on Saturday mornings (for around 3hours) in Harwell village. However, we are looking to expand this so would be interested in discussions with applicants about other availability. We work only during term time (12 sessions per term, some fall on the first Saturday of a holiday) and there are options to have some Saturdays off during this time if needed. In July each year we produce a full-scale musical and tutors need to be available for all performances and rehearsals during this time.

Tutors need to be DBS checked (we can provide this if not already in place) and various training elements, including safeguarding, are required as part of the role. There are also occasional meetings outside the Saturday hours but these are organised based on tutor availability.

Fee is £20-£30/hr dependant on experience. The role is due to start in September, with some training sessions beforehand if possible. Application deadline 30th June 2022.
