Feeling Safe: Artists and Art Organisations Commission Open Call

Submitted by OXCEP on December 8, 2021 - 13:31
Salary / Fee:
Up to £4000 per project
Closing Date:
Tuesday, 14 December, 2021

Oxford and Oxfordshire have a strong track record of individuals and organisations with
excellent skills and experience delivering arts and cultural education for young people both
inside and outside the school environment and curriculum.
We are excited to launch the Feeling Safe: Young People, Wellbeing and the Arts in
Oxfordshire project funded by Artswork and Oxfordshire’s Contain Outbreak Management
Fund (COMF). We are now looking for inspiring partnership projects with local art
organisations and artists, working in a range of different artforms, to support and bring to life
our Arts Partnership strand.
The overall aim of the Feeling Safe project is to support young people to improve their
mental and physical health, following the difficulties created by the Covid-19 pandemic
lockdowns. We hope projects will allow children and young people to experience increased
agency and leadership skills through their involvement, whilst building confidence by taking
part in Digital Badges, Arts Award and Artsmark.

As part of the project, we would like partners to:
• Deliver a project with young people in either a formal school setting, or in a young
people’s group setting.
• Develop projects that specifically target young people in pre-transition year groups
(i.e. Year 5, pre-GCSE years, and final GCSE year), to enable them to start their
transition years with confidence and a positive outlook.
• Work collaboratively with the project team to develop plans which link to the
outcomes of the overall Feeling Safe project, including Digital Badges, Arts Award and
links to other schemes within their planning.
• To contribute to, support and attend the celebratory events that are specific to the
schools and youth groups they are working with.
• To contribute and embed the projects evaluation process into their planning and
record evidence of workshops (i.e photographs / film with permission) as required.
• Follow current government guidelines to reduce the spread of COVID-19, and ensure
all activity is delivered in-line with government recommendations.
• Adhere to all safeguarding policies, equality and diversity policies, and commit to a
practice that encourages equality, diversity and inclusion.

PROJECT PROPOSALS NEED TO INCLUDE:
• An outline of the creative workshops that you will develop and deliver in schools or
with a group of young people outside of a school setting, to help young people
develop confidence, resilience and support positive mental health (including
numbers you can accommodate in each workshop)
• An outline of how the proposal will help young people improve their mental health
and facilitate wellbeing.
• An outline of how you will help inform young people about how to reduce the spread
of COVID-19 during the delivery of the programme.
• An estimate of how many Arts Awards could be delivered within the project, and at
what level, or a suggestion of the skills that could be recognised using digital badging
(please indicate if you are Arts Award trained).
• An outline of any CPD workshops you could deliver to support teachers and youth
group leaders in using the Arts, with a reference to supporting young people’s
wellbeing if possible.
• At least one case study of previous work you have developed and delivered with
young people in a school setting or with a group of young people outside of formal
education, with reference to any Arts Awards delivery experience you have.
• We are looking for 2 projects that work with either a school or youth group in each
district of Oxfordshire - please include which of the five districts you are able to work
within.
• A full budget breakdown for the project you are proposing.

Notes:
• There will be an evaluator for the project who will help create a baseline for the
young participants’ wellbeing and suggest ways to measure change.
• There will also be CPD opportunities for you as partners, and for the schools, in
supporting young people’s mental health needs.
• Arts Award experience is not essential as we are able to provide training to support
you in developing your Arts Award offer as part of the project. If you would like to
take up this opportunity, please highlight this in your proposal.
• Arts Award moderation costs do not need to be included in your budget breakdown,
there is additional funding to support this element.
• We are also proposing to pilot Digital Badges for young people participating in some
of the projects. For more information about Digital Badging, visit the Badge Nation
website here: https://www.badgenation.org/
