West Ox Arts (WOA) is looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Gallery Manager starting September 2021.

You will have day-to-day responsibility for the running of the Gallery and will lead on projects to increase our profile and participation in arts in the local community.

This is a permanent part-time role for 15 hours a week.

As Gallery Manager you will be responsible for a wide variety of duties with the aim of increasing visitor numbers; improving member engagement and benefits and increasing our workshop and event offerings. Core to the role is ensuring that our exhibitions run smoothly with the support of the Gallery Administrator.

Gallery operations and exhibitions
Ensuring the gallery is staffed during opening times through the coordination of volunteers and paid staff
Overseeing gallery communications
Operational oversight for upcoming exhibitions ensuring all necessary work is carried out including seeking out new artists for exhibition
Participating in the WOA Exhibitions Sub-Committee meetings as necessary
Managing artist relationships before, during and after exhibitions
Push forward improvements on how the Gallery is utilised. This could include improving on artists information and seeking new ways to engage with visitors
Undertaking core operational requirements in the areas of HR, health and safety, facilities and finance

Together with the administrator you will also have a hands-on role in responding to enquiries, opening and closing the gallery as necessary and welcoming visitors.

Marketing
Putting in place and undertaking marketing activities in order to maximise visitor numbers. This will include keeping our social media channels up to date and offering interesting and engaging content
Coordinating external medial activities such as press, local TV and radio
Overseeing and undertaking improvements to our website

Finance and Shop
Overseeing the recording sales of work, handling cash and using credit card machine
Weekly cashing up and banking
Providing support to the treasurer
Accepting and logging deliveries of shop items from members

Membership
Seeking improvements in membership administration and benefits. Taking a pro-active approach to maximise what we can offer to our members.

As time allows, and with a volunteer network you will look to increase local engagement.
Working with local libraries and businesses to increase art in the community. This is to include getting off the ground local art-hubs for exhibiting and potentially selling our members work.

You will need to ensure adequate staffing during gallery opening hours which may require you to work the occasional weekend if volunteer cover is unavailable. Some of your core working hours will need to be during gallery opening.
We are looking for a self-starter with excellent organisational and problem solving skills and a passion for the arts.
Required skills and experience:
Good understanding of general operational requirements for HR, finance and health and safety
Experience of tools for marketing and publicity
Comfortable dealing with members of the public and business owners
Experienced user of microsoft office programs
Familiarity with GSuite

You will also be: -
Personable and enjoy dealing with and engaging with the general public in relation to the arts
Able and happy to work on your own
Proactive with a can do attitude

Pay rate up to £12.50 per hour, depending on experience.
