Chipping Norton Theatre is a restlessly busy and ambitious theatre and arts centre in the Cotswolds. Welcoming over 50,000 people every year in a town of little over 7,000, The Theatre delivers a year-round programme of theatre, comedy, music, film and participatory activities for audiences across the region. More recently, we have grown as a producing house, creating three major productions each year and growing a stronger and more loyal audience as a result.
This is, in part, a new role for The Theatre. In 2012, when we began a more comprehensive and regular programme of in house producing, we recruited the role of Producer to help to manage this output. We intend to continue that role, but expanding the artistic and creative input of the role, in support of the Artistic Director, across the wider programme. This would include bringing new and different thinking, proposals and contacts to our work, and advocating for us within the wider industry.
The Theatre sits at the heart of its community and is an important part of many people’s lives. It is run by a small team of around 12 permanent staff, with support from casuals and volunteers. The Theatre has continued as many activities as possible during the last 16 months including most Take Part activities, a full weekend cinema programme whenever possible, a month-long in house produced Christmas show, and a season of al fresco cinema and live events this summer. The team have worked tirelessly and loyally throughout the current pandemic and are looking ahead now to a full Autumn Season.
The Theatre team are friendly and supportive. We have a book club and lunchtime staff screenings, and even put on the recent football games in the auditorium. We have a dog day once a week, staff look after our small back garden and we like to have a big BBQ in the summer months. We meet regularly to discuss mental health as group and strive to make The Theatre an enjoyable place to work for all.
The job is diverse, and demands the usual degree of flexibility on hours, a high level of multi-tasking, organisation and lots of energy! Although experience of producing would be an advantage, we are more interesting in finding the right individual, and will provide training in any areas required.
