KINGSGROVE, WANTAGE - OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS

St. Modwen, the master developer of the new 1,500 home settlement at Kingsgrove, is inviting artists of all ages and career stages to apply to respond to a series of Artist Briefs regarding three public art commissions across the project from 2020-2022. The briefs set out particular themes and locations with which the selected artist should engage. The briefs can be viewed as either three distinct separate pieces or a linked set of works. The aim is to allow the selected artist to identify, progress and deliver an appropriate public art response to each brief.

THE PROJECT

Kingsgrove is a new settlement which is currently under construction between the historic towns of Wantage and Grove. It has been designed in response to the place, sensitively positioned on the urban edge north of Wantage and extends to around 90 hectares (222 acres). A sustainable mix of uses are being delivered, including a primary school, a neighbourhood centre and other supporting uses. Significant areas of public open space are being provided in the form of local parks, playing fields, play areas and extensive areas of new woodland which wrap the northern boundary and provide a new network with access to the wider countryside.
