Trustees sought for rapidly growing Oxford based Theatre Charity

Human Story Theatre has achieved national acclaim for its outreach work, raising awareness of health and social care issues through new writing and delivering accessible performances. We have established a diverse portfolio of partnerships and a strong track record of reaching new audiences. The charity is at a turning point in its development and requires additional charity trustees to support continued growth and a step change in the way we work, strengthening the Board and supporting the Joint Artistic Directors/ Founders.

Human Story Theatre was formed in August 2016 by Amy Enticknap and Gaye Poole and registered as a charity (CIO) in June 2017. Our purpose is to explore health and social care issues through the medium of theatre and to raise awareness of important issues that affect communities everywhere. Our performances take place in local community centres, libraries and theatres and are designed to unite communities, and to raise awareness of the support available by signposting local resources and making them accessible. A unique feature of our work is that we partner with local community groups, health and social care professionals, charities and organisations working to support those affected by the issues explored in each play.

To complement the skills of our current trustees, we are seeking people who have knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas: -
• Financial/commercial management - with a view to becoming our Treasurer
• Fundraising
• Previous experience of charity/business management, governance, strategic planning etc.
• Community development projects
• Acting as an ambassador for the organisation

You will be able to commit to attendance at regular board meetings (usually 4 per year), lend your expertise on either the Artistic or Resources & Finance committees, and/or offer other support according to the charity’s needs and your availability. Meetings are held in the Oxford area.
We are particularly keen to hear from potential trustees who would help broaden the diversity of our board. We would welcome applications from anyone interested to support our purpose, whatever your social or cultural background, your age or abilities.
Trustee appointments are unpaid, although we offer reasonable out-of-pocket expenses. We will plan our meetings with a view to public transport and/or other trustee access needs wherever possible.
