Are you a budding writer, poet or a songwriter? Would you like the opportunity for your work to be installed in a new listening post in the Covered Market so everyone can hear it, perform with a renowned author, be a part of the market’s history and win £150?

Oxford City Council is launching a competition to write a piece of spoken-word, poetry or music that tells their story of Oxford Covered Market. It could be your experiences visiting the market over your lifetime, a fictional story set within the market, or a description of the sights and smells of the market today.

To enter the competition, please record your piece – either on your mobile phone (for example on the ‘Voices Memos’ app on an iPhone) or on a computer – and send the audio to Oxford City Council using Facebook Messenger or Instagram Direct.

All entries should be performed in sound only, and last no more than three minutes, with the Covered Market as its subject. Each person can only enter one piece so make sure it’s your best one! It could be a poem, song, short story, piece of prose, or any other form that can be performed aloud. All the words must be your own.

There are four age categories to enter:
10 years old and under
11 to 17 years old
18 to 24 years old
25 years old and over

Each category will have a winner with a prize of £150 and a runner up with a prize of £50, all in the form of vouchers to spend in a participating Covered Market shop of your choice.

Competition entries will be judged by a panel including renowned author, Barney Norris.
