This is an open call from our twin city of Wroclaw, inviting proposals for short-term projects as part of a 'self-publishing laboratory'.

About the laboratory:
Self-publishing has been an ongoing trend in the creative environments over the last few years. This field is widely defined but mostly associated with graphic design, alternative storytelling, re-use and remix cultures, and D.I.Y. projects. Artists and designers are involved in making zines, publications related to local communities and their stories, art and photo books. In addition to printing as a traditional tool, Internet became a huge platform for artists and designers to share their projects. Artistic experiments, alternative and digital storytelling, metatexts and gif culture are trending right now, making artistic
expression accessible and free for everyone. Self-publishing is also associated with grassroots initiatives, independent culture and urban movements for social issues.

Keywords for the call are: analogue and digital self-publishing, zine archives, collage and gif culture, art and photo books, digital storytelling, self-organisation, grassroots initiatives, intermedia, D.I.Y., graphic design, local communities, socially engaged art practices, screen printing, activism.
Residency of an artist coming from one of the European twin cities of Wrocław will be part of self-publishing residency programme. As a result, a temporary collective of artists, curators, designers, activists and theorists of culture will be established at Recepcja – one of the cultural venues run by
the Culture Zone Wrocław, where workshops, artist talks, meetings and presentations will be held.

The call is open to artists, curators, designers, activists, educators and theorists of culture, residing, born, creating or studying in one of the following cities: Breda (The Netherlands), Lille and Poitiers (Department La Vienne/France), Dresden and Wiesbaden (Germany), Grodno (Belarus), Hradec
Králové (Czech Republic), Kaunas and Vilnius (Lithuania), Lviv (Ukraine), Oxford (The United Kingdom) and Reykjavik (Iceland).
