A boy lies on a bed with a harp across his tummy. Another boy and an adult are helping him to play it.

A one-day course for professionals working within Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, suitable for anyone with an interest in SEN/D including teachers, school leaders, teaching assistants, nursery staff, and Early Years practitioners. The course aim is for participants to gain an understanding of how music can be used to support learning for children with SEN/D, and to feel confident planning and leading musical activities to meet specific learning outcomes.

Research suggests that musical ability is innate in all of us; even children who struggle to engage or communicate verbally can react in amazing ways to a musical experience. Perhaps you've seen this happen? You might be able to think of a dozen children who would benefit from this approach, but do you feel confident enough to plan and lead musical activities in your own workplace? This course will unlock the musician in you, and teach you how you can use music to support children with SEN/D, without needing to be a virtuoso yourself.

Participants will leave the course having created a strategy unique to their individual setting, with the confidence to begin introducing more musical activities day to day, and the understanding of how to use music as part of a personalised sensory diet or behaviour support plan. Participants have the option of joining a Facebook group which can provide ongoing support, for no extra charge.

Course Topics:

Augmenting a sensory diet with musical instruments
Using song to support the teaching of emotional literacy and appropriate behaviour
Building relationships with adults and peers through group music making
Using musical activities to develop communication and social skills
Easing transitions using song
Discovering my body through music

This is a one day course with lunch included. Cost £150. For more details and booking please see https://fao.yapsody.com/event/index/2524...
