Oxford Lieder

Oxford Lieder is looking for enthusiastic Festival Assistants to play a significant role in the day-to-day running of the Oxford Lieder Festival.

The sixteenth Oxford Lieder Festival - The Last of the Romantics: Mahler and fin-de-siècle Vienna - explores the cultural melting pot that was Vienna at the very height of Romanticism. Starting with Mahler’s 45 complete songs with piano we also explore the songs and chamber works of his contemporaries and predecessors: Schubert, Beethoven, Brahms, Wolf, Zemlinsky, Korngold, and Strauss. Nestled amongst more than fifty performances are also study days, readings, screenings, and workshops. Our starry line-up of artists includes Ian Bostridge, Sarah Connolly, Angelika Kirchschlager, Mark Padmore, Roderick Williams, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, and many more.

The Festival Assistant positions are paid, and are ideally suited to someone looking to gain experience in arts administration and events management. The Festival Assistants (FAs) will need to be available throughout October, and will need to be resident in or near Oxford during that time. Reporting to the Director of Administration, our FAs will work as a team on a range of administrative and front-of-house duties, and additionally will be responsible individually for a specific aspect of the Festival. We currently have two vacancies:

• Concert Management Festival Assistant
This FA will be responsible for opening and setting up venues and green rooms, ensuring clear venue signage, ensuring all public and staff areas are kept clean and tidy, welcoming and assisting artists, arranging audience seating, assisting front-of-house for all recitals, and helping other FAs in their work as directed and as time allows.

• Box Office Festival Assistant
This FA will be expected to work from their home during the day. They will be responsible for answering all box office telephone and email enquiries between 10am-6pm every day, undertaking box office administrative tasks including offering returns to our waiting lists, sending targeted box office marketing emails, and reconciling takings with ticket figures. They must communicate regularly and clearly with our Box Office Administrator. They will also undertake additional administrative tasks in support of the rest of the team and help out at the front-of-house box office for all evening recitals.

If you are interested in helping to make this Festival a great success, please get in touch with Taya Smith, Director of Administration at taya@oxfordlieder.co.uk. For more information about the Festival, please see our website.
