Cornerstone arts centre in Didcot is launching a new Cultural Ambassadors Scheme aimed at engaging new audiences of older people (over 50) with Cornerstone’s cultural offer.

Our cultural ambassadors will be a core group which regularly meets at Cornerstone. As an advocate for Cornerstone’s cultural offer, they will spread the word about what is available and encourage peers and friends to attend and try out a variety of culture events and activities.

Anyone can be a cultural ambassador! All you need is to be over 50, have an enthusiasm for arts and culture and enjoy talking to other people to share information. We are open to anyone including people with disabilities or impairments, carers, and those living with long term health conditions.

Facilitated by staff from Cornerstone and Age UK Oxfordshire, the group will help plan and deliver new ideas to enable Cornerstone to better engage with older people, and champion our arts and cultural offer to older audiences within your own peer groups and networks.

We are piloting the scheme between July and October 2017, and aim to continue beyond this with monthly meetings at Cornerstone on Thursday afternoons, and special offers and events for ambassadors throughout the year. The scheme will be a great way to meet new people, make friends and learn more about culture and art activities in your area.

Our first meeting will be on Thursday 13 July, 2-3.30pm. Come along to meet others interested in culture and the arts and discuss ideas about how we can engage more older people at Cornerstone.

Subsequent meeting dates are 17 August, 14 September and 5 October at 2-3.30pm, however don’t worry if you are not available for all these dates, we would still love to hear from you.

If you have any questions at all, or to confirm your attendance on 13 July, please contact Miranda Laurence, Cornerstone’s arts development officer, on miranda.laurence@southoxon.gov.uk or 01235 515134.

We look forward to meeting you!
