West Oxfordshire District Council is seeking a skilled and experienced arts co-ordinator with strong, effective administrative skills to co-ordinate the Council’s increasing public art work. The Public Art Co-ordinator will have a sound knowledge of and keen interest in contemporary art in the public realm.

With a minimum of two years’ experience in an arts administration role, the work will involve a range of activity including writing artists' briefs; advising on the appropriate selection procedures for identifying and recruiting artists; advertising opportunities and identifying PR/marketing opportunities; budget setting and monitoring; drafting artists’ contracts; co-ordinating community and/or stakeholder consultation; liaising with artist(s), designers and fabricators; identifying technical, health and safety and risk assessment issues; and coordinating any project events.

This is a freelance role and the Public Art Co-ordinator is responsible for their own tax, NIC and insurance. The Public Art Co-ordinator’s fee will be paid as a set daily rate to be negotiated according to the level of experience.

The role is part time at 26 days over at least 6 months. The work pattern will vary according to work load and requirements of the projects.

Travel expenses incurred from the Witney office in undertaking the role will be paid, and desk space and facilities will be made available.
