'How do you do?' 'How do you do what?'

I trained in fine art painting and printing in London. I have exhibited nationally and internationally with solo shows around Oxford and New Zealand. Paintings during this period celebrated the natural and man made environment. The slope of a roof, a glimpse of a tree at an odd angle the variety of shape and complexity of foliage in varying seasons. Patterns, shapes and rhythms formed the visual content of my work.
The words of Howard Jacobson (Royal Academy speech) echo my thoughts: No traveller ever sets out with so little idea of where he is going or how he is going to get there than an artist does. And no traveller ever gets to a more wonderful place. Not everyone is fortunate enough to earn their living playing. But what draws people to art and artists is a desire to enjoy the propinquity of play. For it is the very freedom of the imagination. And what else were we born to do, but imagine freely?
Recent work has focused on the fascination I have with clowns. To some clowns are sinister and frightening to others fun and humorous. This is reflected in the split persona image, a mask of makeup with outlandish accessories belying some deeper tragedy.
