This course will cover all the basics of Flamenco dance (posture, body work, arms and hands, footwork, marking steps and turns) and over the 3 weeks of the course, all these basics will be incorporated into learning a complete, original Flamenco dance choreography which will be a Fandango. The course will be taught by the senior Camino del Flamenco teacher, Rosa Maria Reed, who specialises in teaching adult beginners in a friendly, accessible and enjoyable way.

If you want to know more about our classes and what you will need to wear for the classes, you can find more information on our website, under "Adult Classes" and the "FAQ" section of this page. You can also watch film and see photos of our classes on our Facebook and Instagram pages (accessible from the Home page of our website)

We are taking registrations for this course now. Contact us if you would like to receive a registration form (which has more details of this course). Please note that we expect this course to be very popular, so book your place up early to be sure of getting onto this course. You can either book and pay for the whole course (paying by BACS in advance or in cash on the first day of the course) or you can pay weekly (which is better of you can't come to all 3 weeks of the course).

Picture of castanets

For many people one of the most classic sounds of Spanish dance is the sound of castanets. Learning to play castanets is enjoyable and interesting and if you're serious about learning all forms of Spanish dance, including Flamenco, learning to play castanets is an essential part of your dance development. The workshop we are running on Saturday 25 March in central Oxford will teach you all about castanets. The workshop has two levels, so whether you're a complete beginning who has never tried castanets before, or a skilled dancer with a good working knowledge of how to play them, we have something for everyone!

Level 1 Workshop (13.30 - 14.30) teaches the basics of castanets: how to hold them, how to play them and how to play a selection of popular rhythms played with Flamenco palos including Sevillanas and Fandangos.

Level 2 Workshop (14.30 - 15.30) is for people who already know the basics of playing castanets. This workshop will increase your knowledge, expertise and confidence as you learn to play castanets for a complete short choreography of Fandangos.

WHEN: Saturday 25 March
PRICE: £9.00 (or £15 for both workshops)
WHERE: Pegasus Theatre dance studio (Oxford).

The workshop will be taught by Rosa Maria Reed, senior Flamenco dance teacher for Camino del Flamenco. Pegasus Theatre is in central Oxford and easily reached by public transport as it's on the No. 3 bus route from the centre of Oxford. It has secure bike parking and on street car parking.

Two dancers, their feet in the air and making contact with each other

Teaching: Andrew Wood; Musician: Josie Webber on cello

Dance to Cello. This is a dance session for contact improvisation with an
introduction /warm-up and musical accompaniment by cello. All are welcome
including those not at Oxford University and beginners.

Contact improvisation is a dance which originated in the 1970’s and which
has now spread throughout the world. It’s often taught in university
dance courses but it’s easy to learn and fun. It’s an improvised dance
- a dialogue in movement - which has a fluid and dynamic form, and it’s
social dancing; not stage dancing. Suitable for everyone, whatever your
age, gender or dancing experience.

Please wear loose clothing in which you can move freely and bring a water
bottle. Note that the session is in the Multi-Purpose Room in the basement.
Ask at the reception if necessary.

Afterward, hot and cold beverages are available.
