John Mason School Visual and Performing Arts Specialist College in the Abingdon Schools Partnership.

Required for September 2010-July 2011 ANIMATOR/DESIGNER IN RESIDENCE

As part of the initiatives associated with our specialist status, we are looking to appoint an animator/designer-in-residence to work within the creative arts faculty, our partner schools and the community programme.

The successful candidate should be a practising animator/artist/designer or newly graduated student who would like the opportunity to have a workplace and continue to develop his/her own work. A specialism in the field of film, graphics or animation would be a significant advantage.

As part of the programme, a working space will be established and our purpose-built Gallery space will provide a venue for exhibiting work.

The person appointed will be working within the Art/Design departments for the duration of 10 hours per week, during term time (38 weeks a year). We have a designated animation studio in the school with good ICT facilities. The person appointed will be expected to work on his/her own work and to be directly involved with students for elements of this time, either at the school or in our partner schools or with adults as part of our growing community programme. There may be opportunities to teach twilight or holiday workshops, which will be paid extra.

Studio facilities will be available for the artist/designer to use at any time (8.00am – 5.00pm) and during holiday times with prior arrangement with the site team. There will be no charge for use of any facilities, but material costs will be the artist’s responsibility.

Salary is Grade 6 (£17,161- £19,126 full time equivalent). Actual salary within the range of £3,871 - £4,314.
