Art Idol – search for fresh talent

Are you a budding young artist with enough passion and focus to turn your creative talent into a career? Do you have what it takes to impress the art world’s equivalent of Cowell and Cole? Would you like to see your work on sale side-by-side with that of established artists in a respected, dynamic art gallery? And are you brave enough to be judged by a critical public as well as by us?

If the answer to all the questions above is “yes” then you might be our Art Idol 2010. ginny gray gallery, the contemporary art and crafts gallery in Buckingham town centre (www.ginnygray.com), is launching a search for youthful artistic talent. We’re keen to discover and nurture up and coming artists from our region in line with our policy of supporting local artists and craftspersons.

The competition is open to anyone aged 16 –25 who’s currently living, working or studying in Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Northamptonshire (BON). And the great news is it doesn’t cost a penny to enter. We’ll accept entries from artists active in the following forms: painting, ceramics, glass, sculpture, traditional and giclee printmaking, wood turning, photography and textile art. All you need to do is complete the short one-page entry form (attached) and supply us with jpeg images of three pieces of your work by the submission deadline of Tuesday 8th June 2010.

Work will be judged by gallery owners Ginny and Rob Gray (plus two of the gallery’s most prominent artists). We’re looking for quality, creative flair and commercial appeal.

The three best artists will be shortlisted, with their work going on display in the gallery and on the gallery’s Facebook page for three weeks. From there on in, we’re going to let the public decide. Visitors to the gallery will be encouraged to vote, with the most popular crowned our Art Idol at an awards presentation night, which will be held at the gallery as part of our 1st birthday celebrations on Saturday 11th September. The winner will be taken on full-time by the gallery on our standard terms – a fabulous springboard from which to launch a career as an artist – and will benefit from the prestige and publicity that will accompany their triumph. The runner-up and third-placed artist will also reap the rewards of exposure in the local media and art community. If you have artistic ambitions, what have you got to lose?

Art Idol will be a celebration of young creative talent in the BON region. Do you have what it takes? There’s only one way to find out. Enter now!

BON chance.
